Re my original question – are there published statistics on how many books per student “go missing” each year (not lost and paid, but just missing)? I have not received any info on that, but a number of people have been kind enough to give me the statistics at their schools: If librarians mentioned security systems, I will note that Some comments : “naturally the books taken most are the hot new titles and books needed for assignments.” ELEMENTARY: 11 books (last inventory four years ago) – 500 students; MIDDLE SCHOOL: 22 books (over two years) no security system – 250 students; 100 books – 650 students; 35 books – 800 students; 250 books – 650 students; HIGH SCHOOL : 35 books – 900 students; Without security system – 75 books; with security system – 6 books (no # of students – I deleted e-mail before I noted it. Sorry) 18 books – 315 students; 5 books – 330 students -- Susan Burstein Portland Middle School 93 High Street Portland, CT 06480 portlandms@comcast.net -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
