Books Kids Will Sit Still For 3 by Judy Freeman (Libraries Unlimited 2006)
ISBN:1-59158-164-8

If you are a librarian, grades PreK through 8, and your budget allows for
the purchase of only ONE professional book this year (although I hope, of
course, that your budget is much more generous), look no farther than Judy
Freeman's new biblical tome for book pushers, err, school library media
specialists. Like its predecessors, BKWSSF1 and BKWSSF2, it is a treasure
trove of annotated bibliographies of the best children's books. And
because Judy is a librarian, it's also a fabulously indexed book which will
serve you in collection building, unit creation, book recommending, and
cross-referencing. And while the bulk of the book's 915 pages are devoted
to the carefully prepared annotations and indexes, based on Judy's
extensive knowledge of children's literature (does ANYONE read more
children's books than she does in a year?), the first 131 pages are a
tremendously valuable and eminently readable "textbook" of good,
old-fashioned literature-based librarianship. Judy tells us everything we
need to know, from how to evaluate books, why to become a school librarian,
how to keep book excitement strong in our schools, to how to read
aloud. She also offers dozens of ideas for sharing books with kids and
keeping them motivated to read and in love with stories, authors, books,
and reading. In fact, if you can afford it, buy one copy for school and
one copy of your own. Every elementary and middle school librarian needs
this book--for information, for confirmation, for inspiration!
