That must be like James Frey's "A Million Little Pieces" or as some librarians are also stating that any autobiography that makes an account of a person's life from very early on when they can't possibly remember all information or conversations (such as an adult writer who recalls a conversation made to him or her at the age of 3 or so). I work with librarians who are asking questions such as, if James Frey's work is an autobiography but also not true but because of his addition of information that did NOT happen, then other current titles such as Jeannette Walls "The Glass Castle" must also be "autobiographical fiction" because she couldn't possibly remember all those facts as a child. Ideas, comments, suggestions....we are doing way too much of this "deep thinking" and "genre re-classification"...... ~Shonda Shonda Brisco, MLIS US / Technology Librarian 4200 Country Day Lane Fort Worth Country Day School Fort Worth, TX 817.732.7718 ext. 339 "Start by doing what is necessary, then what is possible and suddenly you are doing the impossible." ~St. Francis of Assisi sbrisco@fwcds.org http://www.fwcds.org/campus/libraries/default.asp >>> Beth Dubbink <bdubbink@YAHOO.COM> 03/04/06 8:56 AM >>> LM_Netters: I have a teacher that is asking me if I ever heard of the genre autobiographical fiction. A resource of hers is referring to this as a writing strategy. I must confess this term is unfamiliar to me. Can you offer any information on this new (?) genre? TIA!!
