With Loss

Newman, Leslea.  Too Far Away to Touch   1995

Nolfo-Wheeler, Amy and Nancy Noel.  All God's Creatures Go To Heaven. This 
book will help a child through the grieving  process not matter if it is due 
to the death of a pet or another loved one.

Palmer, Pat.  I Wish I Could Hold Your Hand-- : A Child's Guide to Grief and 
Loss

Romain, Trevor.  What on Earth Do You Do When Someone Dies?  Free Spirit 
Press, 1999.

Ryan, Dyanne DiSalvo.  A Dog Like Jack.  After a long life of chasing 
squirrels, licking ice cream cones, and loving his adoptive family, an old 
dog comes to the end of his days.

Shriver, Maria.  What's Heaven?

Silverman , Janis .  Help Me Say Goodbye : Activities for Helping Kids Cope 
When a Special Person Dies

Simon, Norma.  The saddest time.  Albert Whitman, 1985.
Explains death as the inevitable end of life and provides three situations 
in which children experience powerful emotions when someone close has died.

Stickney,  Doris.   Dragonflies and Water bugs: Explaining death to Young 
Children.  This fable about the waterbug who changed into a dragonfly helps 
answer the many questions children have about death.

Viorst, Judith.  The Tenth Best Thing About Barney.  is about the death of a 
pet but it is very  well written for small children to explain and help them 
understand death.

Wild, Margaret.  The Very Best of Friends   1989
