I am in my first year as a librarian at a high school I had been teaching English
at for a few
years. Our library
has always been used a decent amount, but it is not seen at the "hub" of the
school. My
principal would like
this to be the case, so we are brainstorming ideas of how to transform our library
into the
information center of
the school. My question for you is, what have you done in your library to make it
the
information "hub" of your
school? Currently, it is just a traditional library with eighteen computers. It
is rather small,
as our building was
previously a middle school, so space is limited. A couple ideas we had so far were
to turn
two of our small
adjacent rooms into group study/project rooms that can be reserved by students
and/or
staff. Also, she is
looking into a grant so we can set-up a help desk in our library. We have recently
partnered
with Apple, so our
school is really getting into a sorts of technologies. the help desk would be run
by students
and a staff
member to help other students and staff with all their technology concerns. Beyond
this, and
(obviously)
making sure our collection meets their information needs, what else do great media
centers
or libraries have?
Any ideas, no matter how big or small, would be greatly appreciated. I will be
sure to post a
hit as well.

Thank you in advance,
