Tricks of the trade:
Let it come for a principal that every English class is to circulate through
the library on a cycle of every 2-3 weeks to check out books. Have LOTS of
current fiction and non-fiction that is geared to them. Have at least 10
magazine subscriptions that they would like to read and not for current
news. Get a library pet or two such as a guinea pig or dwarf hamster. Open
early and stay late. Don't close at lunch. Greet them at the door with a
smile and a "how can I help you?" Display their art. Have poetry contests
and display those things too. Decorate to entice teens. Start student
books clubs. Buy some Graphic Novels/ Anime books which are teen rated.
Have a student store so that they come to you first to buy their supplies.
I have done all these things and more and we went from a school 8 years ago
that circulated about 200 items per month to over 2400 per month. Start
small; don't try all at once or it will kill you! - Amy in Lawton, OK

Subject: [LM_NET] TAR: HS library as information hub

> I am in my first year as a librarian at a high school I had been teaching

make it the

computers. It is rather small,
