Dear LM_NET,
The outpouring of support and resources on this subject has been phenomenal, and I
can't thank you all enough!
It is taking me a while to thank everybody individually & put together the HIT - it
is going to be huge!
I'm trusting that all will be well, even if the space looks very different & has a
different name. There are, as many of you have pointed out, state standards here,
and this is, in general, a really good district with students' best interests at
heart. I'll be retired before it all comes about but have been worried about the
kids, who are great, and some of the faculty, who depend heavily upon the library.
Our principals and the teachers & parents who are aware of the possibility seem to
be appalled at the idea of no school library, and the students don't want their
Lurlene McDaniels books, magazines, graphic novels, etc., to disappear! Surely,
there will be some wonderful compromise - ? a technology/information center with
fiction & "readable" non-fiction shelves, soft seating, & wireless access to all
the best databases ? - that will be good for the community & make most of us happy!
