I'm trying to convince our teachers and parents of the importance for young children to know Mother Goose rhymes. One of the reasons is how knowledge of the rhymes will come up later in life in literature, songs, advertising, movies, etc. I just saw Mission Impossible 3 and the Tom Cruise character scales an incredibly high wall at the Vatican and lies on top of it and says, "Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall." Can you think of any other instances where reference to a Mother Goose rhyme adds to understanding or enjoyment beyond kindergarten? Thanks for your detective work; I will post a hit.
