Our students don't receive their diplomas until all fines / missing items
are returned. It isn't just for us, it applies to the Phy Ed Dept., Music
Dept., anyone who has stuff that kids need to pay for or return. We use
Follett so can keep track of stuff from Kindergarten. They can march through
the line at graduation but we can legally hold the actual diploma until
fines are resolved. Their transcript says they've graduated and admittedly a
few don't care about receiving the actual diploma, although their mothers do
and often come in over the summer to take care of the fines.
During the years leading up to their senior year, they can't buy yearbooks
or parking permits or tickets to things like Prom, Homecoming, etc. until
all fines are taken care of, so this helps them get caught up periodically.
