Interested in wilderness/outdoor activities, boarding school life AND
school libraries?
Conserve School has several Residential Intern positions opening up this
coming school year. The formal position description starts as follows:
"Conserve School, an independent, coeducational boarding school that
serves an academically talented student body and has a special emphasis
on wildlife, outdoor sports, and ecology, is looking for a limited
number of recent [college] graduates who are interested in a two year,
paid internship with an emphasis on residential and student life. The
program will provide training and experience in a boarding school
setting while allowing Interns to apprentice with experienced educators
in the areas of academic teaching, athletic coaching, wilderness
training, and student services."
As you can see, the Internship is not strictly "library" but the
academic teaching apprenticeship could be an apprenticeship in the
library (and the Introduction to Research Methods (aka information
literacy) class) that is required of all Freshman and new students.

This would be a great position for someone starting a library science
program via distance education OR someone who is a fresh MLS and wants
to work in an independent school library but does not have
certification. I've found that many boarding schools will take school
librarians with an MLS or MA-LS and no formal teaching certification.
Getting into a college-prep boarding school, however, would be much
easier if one had some experience working in a school or boarding school
library.
