Greetings, all:

We have a very large ESOL population, including speakers of 42 different
languages, many of them arriving here at school with absolutely no
English. One of our literacy specialists is asking for two things:

1. A resource for identifying the reading level of books. I told her
about the feature in Word and she likes it, but she's looking for more.
Could be print, online, software, anything that can help her target
books for very low-level readers who are middle school age.

2. Some help finding more books that are writeen at low reading levels
(K-2), but with content that's interesting to 7th and 8th graders.
Unfortunately, Winnie the Pooh has limited appeal to 14-year-old boys.
We have a number of the Orca Soundings books, the Bluford series, some
of the more obvious stuff. But I'm looking to go a little deeper.

Thanks for all your help.

---Bob.
