My original question: Our school is going through a regional evaluation in the next two weeks and our Instructional Coordinator has asked me to come up with a response to this by tomorrow: 'Evidence that attention has been given to the American Library Association Standards' I don't even know where to look to find out what the ALA standards for a high school library are. Do you have any idea of where to find these standards." With the help media specialists in my county and on this listserv, we managed to piece it together. Here are the hits: Marna - I just googled Maryland Standards for School libraries and this came up. Not sure if that is what you need-it is close to our Oklahoma standards? http://www.bcpl.net/~dcurtis/mlo/ Robert - Does the person and wording refer to Information Power? The previous standards ---long time ago---- if I remember correctly--- divided stanards by level. Anne Marie - Since it was your Instructional Coordinator who asked, I'm guessing she meant the Information Power learning standards. You can find them here: http://www.ala.org/ala/aasl/aaslproftools/informationpower/informationpower.htm You can show ways in which your curriculum reflects these standards. Lots of local and state standards are based on Information Power. Sandra - i just googled them: american library association standards for high schools and they come up with criteria etc. Gail - I would phrase your response in two parts; First, the principles of InformationPower. Second, the general principles and practices of librarianship (selection principles, code of ethics, library bill of rights, cataloging and classification rules) Thanks for all of your help.
