I was very surprised when I began library work and found that handling all 
the books and shelving ruined my cuticles and caused many broken nails.  I 
have decided it is a job hazard.
      I am reluctant to have acrylic nails (I have heard too many horror 
stories about nail fungus) so I just keep short nails and endure.
I think it is a small price to pay for a job I love.
