I just am calling it a small price to pay-- ever since I worked in
libraries, public and schools, the paper in books is drying and I use my
nails for everything. I have brittle nails to begin with, but I just keep
them short - and they get better in summer! I became better at using my
hands less as tools, use gloves more when cleaning books, dust can do a
number on hands, and the frequent hand washing gets drying too... I keep
hand creme in my desk (not ON the desk as kids were using it, even my Purell
wasn't safe and I had to lock it up)

Good luck!

I have just completed my first year as a school librarian and I loved every
minute of the job. The only thing I didn't like was what working with all
the books did to my fingernails.
