Hello All:
My husband and I are seriously thinking of packing up and moving to Charlotte this
summer. I told him I could get the best advice and inside scoop from my trusted
friends here. If you live in the area or are familiar with it, please help me with
the following questions - and there may be more to come. If you don't mind being a
contact for these, please let me know. This is a HUGE decision for us and I want
to make sure we make the right one. I've been joking that we can just move back if
we have to - but that's not so easy....
1) Biggest concern - job. How are the prospects for a New York State certified,
Masters degree completed School Librarian and Art Teacher? If I can't get a school
library job, are there public library openings available??
2) We are looking at living, for now, in the area around Charlotte - namely
Matthews. Is this a good choice? Are there better options? We are looking for a
three bedroom apartment in a nice area, convenient to the city, hopefully around
the 1000 dollar range.
3) How big of a culture shock/change is this going to be for two people who have
always lived in tiny upstate NY?
4) What are the school systems like? Health insurance? Retirement system? Schools
to avoid working for, schools that would be awesome to work in. I have had
previous problems, so I am looking for a good place to work. I am also looking for
info on what it would be like for an art teacher, so if anyone can get that scoop,
I would be extremely grateful!
5) Anything else, good and bad, you have to say about the area that will help me
make this decision.
I know there will be more questions to come, but this is at least a start for us.
