Many libraries use the term "OPAC"  for the online system (or catalog
system).  Universities have even taken the step to create cute names
for their OPACs based upon their school's mascot.  (For example,
Oklahoma State University's online catalog is called:  BOSS ---which
stands for "Big Orange Search System")---their colors are orange and
black.

As far as a 2.0 world is concerned, maybe we should have a "future
vision" of our terminology but keep it relevant to our students' /
users' vocabularies.  Instead of "cataloging" items, we are "tagging"
items.  Because our students (and even teachers) don't have a clue
what the terms "periodicals" or "microform" mean in our libraries, we
need to be reminded to reduce the jargon and start talking normal!

What other terms and ideas can we use?
