My library assistant brought the magazine to me to ask if I wanted to put it out for our high school students. I told her yes....I challenge the students to actually LOOK at the magazines....especially Newsweek --which never is chosen as a magazine for the browsing groups. I'd be curious to see if they even notice. I told her that with a "shelf-life" of only one week before the next issue arrives, I'd be interested in seeing if anyone actually does notice. (But then I think the "shock value" of nudity is gone now--- about a week ago, I spent an entire day with my daughter at the Modern Museum of Art where we just happened to see a new exhibit of "nudes"--- and in this case, the nude models covered themselves with paint and then crawled, pressed, and crushed themselves onto the canvas while someone video taped the process for historical purposes. It was interesting to see the art and a bit "shocking" to watch the entire process as it was filmed. "Newsweek" magazine seems minor compared to the art exhibit----which was also free!! Thanks to libraries and museums, we are "educating the world!") *grin* ~Shonda -- Shonda Brisco, MLIS District Librarian Peaster ISD Weatherford, TX 76086 Digital Bookends wiki / blog: http://digitalbookends.pbwiki.com http://shonda.edublogs.org/ sbrisco@gmail.com Resources for Texas School Librarians: http://txschoollibrarians.ning.com/ http://txschoollibrarians.wikispaces.com/ "Digital Resources" columnist School Library Journal -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
