I would like some professional documentation (ALA documents, professional research, etc.) that I can share with a couple of administrators who feel that their campus libraries should not share their library's resources with other libraries within the district. While it may be assumed by many of us that most individuals understand that libraries are naturally in the "business" of sharing resources with one another, I have found that not everyone understands those principles. I would like to provide some documentation that specifically states that it is "the mission" or the "underlying philosophy" of libraries to share resources with others when they are available. (On a side note: Most of the materials being requested are NOT on reserve and are NOT on hold for a specific project within the school. These are just books that are being requested by other students on other campuses but are not being provided by these campuses because the administrators do not want to share the library's materials with other campuses. In addition, because all of the campuses are funded from one source---which I administer--it isn't as if the funding source is the primary issue. As a result of this behavior, I am actually purchasing extra copies of materials (which I plan to document) in order to provide the material requests made on the other campuses---while unused materials sit on these library shelves.) Thanks for the resource ideas. ~Shonda -- Shonda Brisco, MLIS District Librarian Peaster ISD Weatherford, TX 76086 Digital Bookends wiki / blog: http://digitalbookends.pbwiki.com http://shonda.edublogs.org/ sbrisco@gmail.com Resources for Texas School Librarians: http://txschoollibrarians.ning.com/ http://txschoollibrarians.wikispaces.com/ "Digital Resources" columnist School Library Journal -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
