We put the source, the date received, the price and the barcode along the inside
edge of the title page. It has been useful in several ways. A book falls apart:
Where did we get it and when? If it's only been a couple of years or less and came
from PermaBound or Bound to Stay Bound, I know I can get a replacement. I don't
know how many times kids have ripped the barcode off the back of the book, but I
still have that info on the title page. I suppose the info I use least is the
price, but I have used it when asked how much is owed for a damaged book.

Subject: [LM_NET] writing on title page

As long as this and secret stamping are coming up---

Just WHY do we write info on the title page? I do it because my
cooperating librarian had me do it during my practicum last year--I put
date of order, price and barcode number. But he didn't really have a good
reason why we do it, and I'm not sure why, either!

"I really didn't realize the librarians were, you know, such a dangerous
group. They are subversive. You think they're just sitting there at the
desk, all quiet and everything. They're like plotting the revolution,
man. I wouldn't mess with them." Michael Moore
