We put the source, the date received, the price and the barcode along the inside edge of the title page. It has been useful in several ways. A book falls apart: Where did we get it and when? If it's only been a couple of years or less and came from PermaBound or Bound to Stay Bound, I know I can get a replacement. I don't know how many times kids have ripped the barcode off the back of the book, but I still have that info on the title page. I suppose the info I use least is the price, but I have used it when asked how much is owed for a damaged book. I do it because my cooperating librarian had me do it during my practicum last year--I put date of order, price and barcode number. But he didn't really have a good reason why we do it, and I'm not sure why, either! They are subversive. You think they're just sitting there at the desk, all quiet and everything. They're like plotting the revolution, man. I wouldn't mess with them."
