The librarian made decisions as to call number, subject, how the title would appear and noted the information such as cost, jobber, purchase date, etc. The book was then ready for the individual (library secretary when I first started) that would type the set of catalog cards needed for each individual book. I don't miss those days at all. I still write the date & cost as well as the barcode number on the page behind the title page. I've found it comes in handy from time to time and if nothing else reminds me I have already entered this book in my system and just need to print the labels for it.
