I have been thinking a lot about Muslim holidays as we have quite a large population (for a small district) of students whose families are Muslims from Bosnia-Herzegovina. I have a few books about Ramadan in my library, also a biography of Saladin. I recently found (at a Waldorf school harvest fair) a book called The Islamic Year: Surahs, Stories and Celebrations by Noorah Alp-Gailani and Chris Smith, published by Hawthorne Press. As the foreward states, this book is "for those working as educators, seeking to interpret Islam to non-Muslim audiences" and includes activities, recipes, and explanations of the important Muslim days. The stories, both short and longer, are nicely written. I'm not sure this is a book for circulation but it's certainly a good reference source for teacher librarians trying to embrace student diversity.Anne PaulsonLibrary Media SpecialistLake Placid Elementary SchoolLake Placid, NY 12946paulson@lakeplacidcsd.netpaulsonap@hotmail.com> Date: Mon, 17 Dec 2007 14:56:24 -0600> From: mludwick@IRVINGISD.NET> Subject: [LM_NET] Books on Muslim Holidays> To: LM_NET@LISTSERV.SYR.EDU> > Today's SLJ came, and it has an interesting article on books for Muslim> children.
