Eileen and everyone I totally agree that there is 'a time and a place' as well as content or covers that are inappropriate. Some things do not belong in a school. A concern I have is a psychological one. Our minds, mental points of view, whatever it's called, are not fully developed until we're in our 20s. While I have an open mind about adults reading whatever they want, I am a little concerned that a teen male is reading something that teaches him that girls like to be treated this way even if the girls are saying they don't like it. There's no way he won't be influenced by this philosophy. I don't want to seem like an alarmist, but my 'mom' radar kicked in on high when I went to Amazon.com and looked at Veitch's titles. As open-minded as I am, I wouldn't want to find out that my daughter is going out with a young man who reads this genre. I do like Melissa's idea of returning the book to the student's opposite parent. That is, if you can't return it to both at the same time. Thanks in advance, as always, EC Ever on the lookout for a new voice in fiction I hurried to Amazon to look at Ms. Veitch's catalog of work. The description of the first title listed introduced me to a whole new genre - adult discipline fiction! Imagine the bulletin boards for this one! I also glanced at the covers of the rest of her titles, which were actually more titillating covers than "Training Grounds". Every one of them would get taken up at my campus for "inappropriate content" pictured on the cover no matter what might actually be written inside. And I wouldn't have a problem with that at all. There is a time and place for everything, but school is just not the place. And I never in my life thought I would actually say that! I would recommend that the book be returned to the student's opposite parent: Mom if it's a boy, or Dad if it's a girl.
