I know this is a "me too" and I shouldn't do it, but I must say that I, too thoroughly enjoyed these books. I read Twilight in 3 hours while waiting at the airport, I was that entranced. And, Joanne is correct, girls definitely want Edward - this one included. I only have one concern about these books. Bella seems all too willing to kill herself for this boy. She has very little self-esteem and no concern for her own safety or well-being. I am really a very liberal thinker, and I really want Bella to be more self-reliant. Don't get me wrong, here, I adore these books and will keep reading them as wrong as the author writes them. This is just a simple wish from a lover of the series. Also, for those of you who simply cannot get enough of Edward and Bella, visit Meyer's web site under the extras section she has added parts to New Moon: one being getting the phone call from Rosalie hearing the bad news about Bella from Edward's point of view, and also events seen through Jacob's point of view. Great stuff, I assure you. http://www.stepheniemeyer.com/nm_extras.html Melanie Mubarak Ridgemont Elementary Librarian melanie.mubarak@fortbendisd.com 281-634-4888 I'm reading The Spiderwick Chronicles Book 3: Lucinda's Secret by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black. How about you? -----Original Message----- From: School Library Media & Network Communications [mailto:LM_NET@LISTSERV.SYR.EDU] On Behalf Of Kathy Reel Sent: Thursday, February 08, 2007 9:24 AM To: LM_NET@LISTSERV.SYR.EDU Subject: Twilight and New Moon I just had to add my hearty endorsement for Twilight and New Moon by Stephenie Meyer. I had read about Twilight's appeal to both adults and young adults, so with my curiosity peaked I bought Twilight. I had originally hesitated because I wasn't sure I would like the vampire content. Well, I could not put the book down. It so transcends anything to do with vampires. That's an important point I wanted to note for others who may hesitate to pick up these books. Bella and Edward give forbidden love a good name. Of course, the second one, New Moon, moves on to include were wolves, too, and, again, I couldn't put it down. Stephenie Meyer is one of the best new writers to grace the novel arena, a story teller of tremendous talent. It's no surprise that adults and students devour her work. Eclipse, the third installment in this series, is due out the end of August or first of September. I look forward to it every bit as much as the last Harry Potter in July, and I was a Harry Pott! er fan even before he had caught on in this country. Twilight and New Moon have that same magical power of instilling a love of reading in their readers as Harry has done. Middle school and high school libraries should definitely have these two entrancing novels on their shelves.
