Thanks for all your good ideas! In my other life (pre-librarian) I was a kindergarten teacher. One of the favorite activities was for everyone to make Gorp – everyone brought in 10 of one of the ingredients which we put together to eat for snack and also to hand out to other staff (librarian, secretary, principal, speech teacher, etc). The ingredients are: raisins (golden & dark), peanuts (or some other kind of nut – depending on if you have nut allergies), M&M candies (regular, peanut butter, etc), dried cranberries. You could also add mini-marshmallows, chex cereal, etc. ll Search Engines 1 - 20 of 61 (About Results) 1 | 2 | 3 | 4Next > 1. 100th Day of School Activities On the 100th day of school we put together a list of 100 things in which we are thankful for. Search, Ask.com] Hi, Kristina - Our 2nd grade has made this a family project. Every family is invited to make a "something: using 100 of any item. Examples: one hundred pennies pasted down to show $1.00, a tree with 100 leaves, m & m's, stickers, you name it. Most elaborate was a revolving carousel with 100 miniature animals - I think they used a lazy susan. They were then put on display outside the room. don't know where they got the idea, but our kindergarten students (we have almost 100) were each given a colored paper with an assigned number to decorate. They could use markers, cotton balls, glitter, macaroni, whatever was available in the classrooms. When they were finished, the teachers made a "quilt" on the wall in the kindergarten hallway with the decorated numbers. It was a perfect fit with 1 - 10 on the top row, 11 - 20 on the second, etc all the way to the floor. Now the students love to be asked to show you their number since all the names are on the back where you can't read them. We hope people will resist the urge to touch the squares and it will be on display for the rest of the year. Imagine what life will be like in a hundred years. Draw a picture of what you will look like and write about what life will be like. Invent something that people will be using in a hundred years. Give each student/groups of students play money ($100) and a mail order catalog of some sort. Have them find five different things that they can buy with a hundred dollars. They have to cut out those pictures and place it on construction paper. Have them figure how much change they will get back if the item is less than one hundred dollars. Making books entitled "I wish I had 100______" and illustrating them. Be absolutely quiet for 100 seconds. Fill in a form that looks like this: I wish I had 100___________ I wish I had 100__________ I wish I had 100____________ But I'd never want 100__________!!! Having an assembly for K, 1, and 2. The principal gives a 100 word speech at the 100th minute. Write a group poem on the 100th day. Each student is given a slip of paper and is asked to fill in the blanks. It says: IF I HAD 100 ________, I WOULD _________. Example: If I had 100 sisters, I would find another place to live. While students are having lunch, they copy each student's line of poetry on a piece of poster board to create a group poem (including the teacher’s) and hang it in the hall for all to share by the end of the day. Students "dress up" to look like they would if they were 100 years old. A local newspaper could come take their picture. Be creative with costumes. Gray hair, wrinkles drawn on, granny hats, shawls, and purses donated by grandmothers, beards, mustaches, walking sticks, real, old lady dresses straight out of someone's closet. As a tie-in activity, they could write about themselves as 100 year old Senior Citizens, and what it would be like. If helps them to realize that they too will be older someday. Teacher could dress up as a hundred year old person! The children would get a kick out of it. Students write positive comments about their classmates or an act of kindness until you have 100 comments. (For a group of 25, each would make 4 comments.) List all the positive remarks on a poster in the shape of 100 for others to read. Teacher can write a poem to read to their class that contains exactly 100 words. FROM ANOTHER TEACHER: One year we invited a 100 year old woman to visit our kindergarten classes at Hazel Dell Elementary school on our 100th Day. She told us what life had been like for the last 100 years. She answered many questions the children asked. When one child asked her what she had done to be able to live for 100 years she replied, "Nothing exciting!" (from Karen Kirby, Noblesville, IN) When my daughter was in first grade, each child brought 100 snacks- 100 m&m's, 100 raisins, 100 cheerios. It was all put into a huge bowl, so they had a snack mix. She ended up needing to go in to the clinic and get a shot, so she missed her 100 party. The nurse at the clinic helped her gather 100 items from a doctors office, so she got to take that to school the next day to share with the class. I thought that was nice of them. . . These are some of the books that we use in our school to celebrate the 100th Day. 100th Day Worries Counting your way to the 100th Day 100 School Days Miss Bindergarten Celebrates the 100th day of School Emilly's First 100 Days of School There is a book called EMILY I bought for my grandchild...It is precious and celebrates the beginning days of school and counting. I found it on Amazon.com My daughter had to bring one hundred items of something to school. She took 100 things you find on a farm. She had a blast with it. In addition, the teachers and staff dressed as one hundred year old people that day. The kids really enjoyed it. In my son's kindergarten class each student made a shirt at home with 100 things on it and wore it to school on the 100th day. Very interesting the things that the parents and kids came up with. We paint 100 number 1s.
