I've had a number of requests today, so I thought I would post this again. I am the creator - with some help from Tony Pope and other librarian friends - of the Dr. Seuss Power Point. Here is how you can get it. Visit http://www.glassboroschools.us <https://exchange.glassboroschools.us/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://www.glassboroschools.us> In the top left hand corner there is a drop down menu labeled Select a school. Choose Bullock School. On the next page choose Teachers. On the next page choose K. DeFrank. On my page choose Dr. Seuss Power Point. It has been saved as a slide show. It was posted before I was able to update it, so the math is incorrect - Dr. Seuss should have 103 candles on his cake this year. With some creative guidance from Tony Pope here are some other ideas I am doing this year for Read Across America: 1. classroom door decorating contest - pizza party prize to the best door in each grade level 2. "Caught Reading" photo contest - book fair gift certificate prize for the best photo 3. Read Across America week dress up days - Monday/multi colored clothes for My Many Multi Colored Days, Tuesday/Green for Green Eggs and Ham, Wednesday/Horton Hears a Who and the Grinch/ Who Hair Day, Thursday/crazy socks for Fox in Socks and Friday/Crazy Hats for the Cat in the Hat and The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins 4. Green Eggs and Ham for lunch on March 2 5. (I really copied this from Tony) I made a multi page brochure for the teachers. In it I included all the flyers I am sending home, the door decorating contest flyer again, and list of all the Dr. Seuss/Theo LeSieg books, book and tape sets, and videos we won. There's a list of Dr. Seuss websites. There is also a page to list all the Dr. Seuss books the class reads together. Finally there are worksheets from the Random House website that the teachers can copy for their students as they wish. It's just too much for me to copy for everyone! 6. The PTO organizes guest readers to visit in the morning. We have about 60 people come. 7. Finally I am organizing an assembly. I do this every year and I don't change it too much. There are four parts to it every year: a. someone reads a story. Principal, special guest, etc. Not sure who this year - but it may be me! b. special class presentations - short readers' theater or song c. sing/cheer for reading - Give me an R!! Give me an E!! Give me an A!! Give me a D! What's it spell??? Sometimes The Cat or Captain Underpants shows up. d. Prizes - the week before I have all the kids write their names on small pieces of paper and we put them in a big barrel. I have ten small gift bags that I fill with pencils, stickers, etc. -sometimes a book but since I don't know who will win each bag I may just put play money to spend at the book fair. This is very popular and you would think I was giving out $100 bills!!! I had an idea I saw somewhere to have a cake contest, since it's the Cat's 50th anniversary, but we aren't supposed to have anything to eat with sugar listed as the first ingredient....so that's a no-no. Enjoy!
