The New York City School Librarians' Association (NYCSLA) is proud to announce our first professional development institute! "Questioning for Success" will be a full-day workshop on Saturday March 10th. Our presenter will be Carol Koechlin, co-author of Building Your Own Information-Literate School, InfoTasks for Successful Learning , and their newest publication QTasks: How to Empower Students to Ask Questions and Care about their Answers . It will be held at the Seward Park Campus Schools building on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. workshop description: "Educators often provide all the academic prompts for students. What would happen if we turned the tables and empowered students to generate their own questions to guide their learning? This workshop will explore the benefits of building a culture of inquiry and introduce strategies for teaching questioning skills to students. During the workshop, we will explore aspects of questioning educators need to consider. We will provide experience with several strategies using practical cross-curricular examples that infuse questioning skills into content learning, and tools to monitor student progress. A variety of media and texts will be used to provide experiences with content — fiction, non-fiction, magazines, newspapers, Internet and video. Participants will be engaged in trying out each strategy and reflecting on how well it might work for their students." Cost: $20 (NYCSLA members), $40 (non-members), includes breakfast and lunch For complete details on schedule and location, check out our brochure at http://nycsla.org/pdf/questioning%20workshop%20rev.pdf REGISTRATION: registration is a two-step process: #1 Send an e-mail to nycsla.librarians@gmail.com provide the following information in your e-mail: 1. your name 2.
