In response to the author rewriting portions of her book when changing the audience: Is it censorship or is it writing to your audience? One of the complaints about Lucky, is that some didn't feel the author was considering the audience she was aiming for. When you change your audience, especially in the case you mentioned, adult to youth, you might need to make adjustments. I would consider it to be writing to your audience.
