This question stirred up many memories. The first computer I worked on
was the dumb terminal of a main frame (late 1970s). I think I next
worked on a Radio Shack Tandy. I also did some work on a Commodore 64
and some of the early IBM clone PCs (1983). My first school had Apple
IIes.

However, the first "computer" I owned was a dedicated word processor
with a memory and a form of . Magnavox made "Videowriters" that sold
for under $700 in around 1988. I made up my mind to wait until
computers and printers (remember dot matrix?) could do what I wanted
with graphics before personally investing in a full-fledged one. As far
as I was concerned, I could use computers with lousy graphics at work
without paying to do so.

Remember when people were afraid of computers?
