Hello,

The latest heated philosophical discussions on who teaches technology
and reading aloud has me thinking...what and why do we teach? If we're
information literacy teachers, on any given day, I teach PowerPoint,
atlases, fractions (yes, math), rarely, if ever, do I directly teach
reading; I scaffold and support it, but I teach it indirectly.

For those who question or oppose us teaching technology over our more
traditional role of reading to students, does that then make you a
teacher of reading? I think what we teach or emphasize is largely
defined by what our district expects of us and that puts us in a very
passive role within oft outmoded views of our role in education.
Shouldn't WE actively (re)define what we teach and why we do it? Does
anyone recall Floyd's latest post: "AASL has done a number
of surveys of the profession and the majority response indicated that
our future lies with some role in technology."
Any other thoughts on this?
