A public "thank you" to all the LM_NETers who replied to my comments about an oversupply of librarians. From their comments, I concluded that the issue is not only regional, but it is very much dependent on whether or not states/districts require certified people in their libraries. Some pointed out the importance of the willingness to relocate. Still others mentioned the flexibility to investigate other fields of librarianship, and the related importance of taking a the broadest spectrum of classes in graduate school. One unanimous sentiment is that this is a challenging and rewarding profession, despite frustrations in the job market.
