I'm in Beijing, China, for the summer, so on Saturday morning, I headed for
the Foreign Languages Bookstore on Wangfujing Street to get my copy of HP7.

But a large Chinese bookstore we passed on our way had an enormous window
display of the books, with a 3 story-tall banner of the cover art, local
business promotion tie-ins outside, etc. so we went there instead.

Inside, there was a TV news crew filming at the separate cash station
devoted to HP7 and they 'interviewed' me (then asked my Chinese driver what
I had said). Of course, I told them that I was buying my books at 9:30 a.m.
Beijing time since it was only 8:30 p.m. on Friday at my home in the USA and
I could get my book before my friends could!!

Not sure if I made it on the evening news or not since I had visitors at
that time. As soon as they got on the plane Monday noon, I dove into the
book and finished in about 6 hours.

The number of people buying the book in Beijing was fairly astonishing (I
was the only Westerner that I saw in that store) because it will not be
available in Chinese for a long time. You can get both the US and UK
versions here at the same price (187.4 rmb, which is $25). I got the
Bloomsbury edition so that I have the British cover art, since I will have
the Scholastic version waiting when I get home to Texas.
