Gail,
I teach it every year to K-3 and remind always our K-5. When I see them
roughly turning I can say, Who remembers how I taught you how to turn pages?
Hands go up. Could you remind us so everyone will remember. At least then if
something gets torn I can say I told you so! :)
I think PreK-K&1st students really do need to be taught or they will never
know how much wear and tear can ruin their favorite books. I remind them too
that some books are out of print which means if they get ruined I can't get
another one and they will never be able to enjoy some of their favorites
like Mr. Men and Little Miss books from Hargreaves (only available in
paperback that I can find)
I say keep teaching it. It may save even one book someday

Subject: [LM_NET] turning pages from the top

Do any of you emphasize this (turning pages from the top) in your teaching
of how to take care of a book? I have tried, in vain, to get this across for
years. I am wondering if it is worth the effort. Our books do get to looking
pretty bad on the bottom of the pages but maybe I should just accept it.
Thanks,
