*****Apologies for cross posting**** Call for Nominations for International Copyright Advocates The ALA Office for Information Technology (OITP) and the Library Copyright Alliance (http://www.librarycopyrightalliance.org/ <http://www.librarycopyrightalliance.org/> ) is seeking a few librarians interested in advocating for libraries at international copyright meetings. In an attempt to build expertise and broaden our ability to represent libraries in international forums, OITP has secured funds to support a pilot program to prepare librarians for international copyright advocacy at forums such as the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) and the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA). Interested librarians must be able to devote approximately four weeks a year to attend international meetings, including preparation for and post analysis of the meeting. We are looking for librarians that can make at least a 3-year commitment to the program. A letter from your institution authorizing this time commitment must be received along with your application in order to be considered. A grant from the John D. and Katherine T. MacArthur Foundation will partially fund travel expenses during the first year. Funding for the second and third year is contingent on possible upcoming foundation grants. Other requirements: Extensive knowledge of U.S. copyright law Demonstrated ability to advocate for libraries or strong willingness to learn Experience working with coalitions ALA membership Release time to attend one day training in Washington, DC Release time to participate in a monthly conference call with the Library Copyright Alliance (LCA) Knowledge of international copyright law is desired. To be considered, submit a letter expressing your interest along with a letter from your institution authorizing your participation. In the letter, include information that would support your candidacy such as experience working in coalitions, previous library advocacy experience and knowledge of the copyright law.
