As always, I find Debbie's comments thought provoking. As a parent and educator it is helpful to have my perception of the world challenged. I was privileged to receive the "We the People" bookshelf this year and have FINALLY convinced a special ed social studies teacher to collaborate with me using this concept. Packing up the materials I need to create the lessons for the summer was on my list of things to do this last day of school, so this message was timely. I will now have another question to pose to students as we study "We the People". What a great concept for the students, and professionals, to consider. Please continue to provide insight to this list on this important topic. Like any other sensitive material, I think that we need to consider HOW we use the material to address concerns/bias instead of whether or not to use the material. The discussion invites readers to consider whether or not "We" is meant to include people of color. The question is posed due to the titles selected for the bookshelf. http://americanindiansinchildrensliterature.blogspot.com Debbie Debbie A.
