One of the things we did this year was go to "bin" shelving for many of our series books. I found plastic organizers (about the size of shoebox) at thrift stores and we've put the Junie B, the Magic Tree House books etc. etc. in them. They no longer fall off the shelves and on to the floor. The kids like it because they can flip through and look at the covers, just like in the bookstores. We also have "bins" for some of the easy, easy (Pebble books etc) non fiction) which we have over in the easy section. Again, the little ones can sit on the floor and flip through the books and can see the covers. Faster shelving and less mess for us, easier book selection for the kids - a win/win Among the other things I did was start a Library Lunch Program with my 4th grade teachers - you can read about it here. http://guusjem.blogspot.com/2007/04/more-you-feed-them-more-they-read.html Not only did I become their new best friend, I also became the cafeteria monitors new best friend. You can never have too many friends.
