Actually, there were 3 GREAT things this year...
1. A thorough weeding of the entire collection! I know weeding is an
on-going procedure...but this was a true cleansing of worn(Everybody and
Fiction) and out-dated materials to give a very "true" picture of our
collection. (Also using circulation and copyright; in addition to other
tools in our automation system; also jobbers like Mackin who "analyzed" our
collection.)
2. After weeding we discovered we could empty the bottom shelf of books and
expand the top two shelves height-wise so we had all the oversize books
spines-out" with the rest. Bottom shelves are only dust-collectors, and a
killer when doing inventory.
3. Series books written by different authors (those dang Mary-Kate and
Ashley's, American Girls, Star Wars fiction, etc.) We changed the call
numbers and spine tabs to "Fic Mar" for Mary-Kate and Ashley; "Fic Ame" for
American Girls, etc. It would drive me crazy trying to remember the authors
names for all these series!
