Dear Netters:

The question on weeding sign language books made me decide to post an
idea for you. Many years ago, I learned a bit of sign language [enough
to be dangerous ;-)], and our music teacher asked me to create signs for
the children to learn for a number of songs they performed at our
concerts. It was a fun project and spurred a number of the children on
to learning more about sign language while allowing me a bit of
collaboration in an area that often gets too little attention. There
were always a few children interested enough to take out the few sign
language books we had and learn more. We did some of the classical songs
like "make new friends but keep the old" "Small World" "Let there be
peace on earth" etc. If any of you know ASL, think about doing this
project - I was in a grade 3-5 school before retiring and that age group
was such fun to work with on projects like this.
