I have a teacher who wants to show the movie, "Glory" to her classes. Unfortunately, our media center's copy basically wore out and was discarded last year by the previous media specialist. In our county, middle schools cannot show any video that is PG-13 or higher so I am unable to replace the video with the currently available versions. One of the other schools in our district has a version of "Glory" that was sold for (and edited) for school use. This version is no longer available for purchase. I've been told that it would not violate copyright law for me to make a VHS copy of this video for our media center. I've read copyright law and can't find a definitive answer. Does this type of copy fall under the right of libraries to make a single copy? If it is legal, can the copy be then broadcast through the school so multiple classes can watch the film at one time?
