And to piggyback, this is a great place to introduce the role of encyclopedias, dictionaries and almanacs as starting points when the person knows nothing. It's a great place to build keywords, as I teach my students. After reading Jacquie's email I realized that this is the perfect subject and opportunity to teach keywords. Students need to think about other ways to look up books in the catalog. What painting style did he use? Where did he paint? When did he paint? These are the same questions they should be asking when they do database and internet searches. I might even use an artist to have a class brainstorm about keywords. Books about what other topics could you find this artist talked about? What terms besides his name could we use to find information?
