Here is some trivia information from the September 2006 issue that would
be of interest to those of us in the information/education field:

Number of Chinese censors who monitor Internet activity: 100,000
Minimum number of different U.S. government agencies that mine the
personal data of citizens: 42
Number of schools and publishers that subscribe to a California
company's plagiarism-detecting database: 5,000
Chances that a college paper today is plagiarized at least in part,
according to a study using the database: 3 in 10
Estimated number of American who get degrees each year from
nonaccredited "diploma mills": 100,000
Number of Pentagon employees who had such degrees on their resumes, in a
recent congressional study: 257

Walt Morey (1907-1992), author of Gentle Ben, overcame functional
illiteracy at age thirteen when he finally took up reading with a
passion.  The plots for most of his 17 published books revolve around
the relationship between man and animals often using the themes of
survival, self-discovery or redemption through nature.
