Thank you for all of your responses! I will pass all this info to the teacher. Original Post: Do you know of a book about a purple cow? The teacher requesting it has a copy of a poem about a purple cow but would like to find books on this topic. Responses: I know that the mascot for Williams College is the purple cow. You might think about calling their bookstore. I bet they are authorities on purple cow literature! "I never saw a purple cow, I never hope to see one. But I can tell you anyhow, I'd rather see than be one." I remember it from childhood...can't tell you the author. I think there was also a book for teachers published in the early 1970's that was called something like "I Never Saw A Purple Cow and other Recipes for Learning." Sorry I can't be more specific. I Saw a Purple Cow: And 100 Other Recipes for Learning (Paperback) by Ann Cole (Author), et al. I have a book in my library called purple cow to the rescue. You could look it up on B & N and see if it is something you want. I never saw a purple cow, I hope I never see one, But I can tell you anyhow, I'd rather see than be one. Childcraft Book Post a hit that is my favorite poem from when I was a kid. When I lived in Panama, I actually saw a PURPLE COW! I was so excited! I was on a bus trip touring and later went back but could not find the cow. There are many cattle there, they tend to be white. They are the cattle from Africa that the Massai use, crossed with brahmas. This one had a skin infection and has been treated with a product called Gentian Violet. And the result was a glorious purple cow. Aren't you sorry you brought it up? Wow, talk about a blast from my past! I remember as a little girl repeating the funny, short poem: I never saw a purple cow, I never hope to see one; But I can tell you anyhow, I'd rather see than be one! I was probably 3 or 4 years old at the time, and this was probably my first memorized poem. Such a great literary feat. Let us know if you find a book about this. Thanks for the memories, I don't know of one specifically, but you might want to check with Williams College, Williamstown, MA. The purple cow is their mascot.
