I've kept a reading log since my AP English class in high school. We started it as an assignment and I've kept it current in the last decade plus. I also keep a cheat sheet of titles in our library I've read and turn those out on the shelves like in a book store. We get lots of students everyday who come in for a recommendation so this helps me as I am walking them around to find something. I like the orange sticker idea someone posted.
