You might have him take a look at Yahoo! pipes. With a little bit of
tinkering, you can set up, aggregate, filter, and syndicate feeds using
very specific sets of criteria.
It's big fun to play with, too.

will give information on specific topics. I showed him Bloglines.com,
and he thought that was ok, but was wondering if there is something that
is more specific. His example was "what if I set up a feed to National
Geographic, but I only want feeds on climate change".
He is an elementary counselor if that helps me find something.
