My first response is "cool! How can I justify the cost to get one?" But my second response is more suspicious. The Kindle looks like an ideal device for textbooks and when one considers the cost of college textbooks, the initial $399 price tag doesn't seem outrageous at all. That's where the suspicious part comes in. Is this Amazon's "Trojan Horse" to take over the textbook market? And then I begin wondering about the long-term questions: If this does work as a textbook delivery system, what kind of model can we create to deliver library books and other resources via the same platform? .....and I still want one. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Peter Butts Library Media Specialist Amberly Elementary School Portage, MI 49008 http://amberlymedia.edublogs.org ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ "if you're not getting answers, ask better questions." ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ----- Original Message ---- From: Shonda Brisco <sbrisco@GMAIL.COM> To: LM_NET@LISTSERV.SYR.EDU Sent: Tuesday, November 20, 2007 7:30:15 PM Subject: SHARE: Amazon Kindle If you have the November 26th issue of Newsweek, take a look at the article about the new "ebook" product (much like the Sony eReader)...this is the Amazon Kindle. It looks like a lot of fun and some great potential---if it could sync with the online databases, I'd love it even more!! (Now, when the price goes down signficantly (it's $400), I'll purchase some for my library!) In the meantime, I may have to ask Santa for one to try out....love these gadgets! http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000FI73MA/ref=pd_sl_aw_manual-1_kindle1_40650458_2 ~Shonda -- Shonda Brisco, MLIS District Librarian Peaster ISD Weatherford, TX 76086 Digital Bookends wiki / blog: http://digitalbookends.pbwiki.com http://shonda.edublogs.org/ sbrisco@gmail.com Resources for Texas School Librarians: http://txschoollibrarians.ning.com/ http://txschoollibrarians.wikispaces.com/ "Digital Resources" columnist School Library Journal -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
