Greetings fiscally responsible and wise ones!

I have very recently changed jobs so I must tread lightly, but I wonder if you
could share your district policy regarding payments for lost books? Apparently in
my new district this money is transferred to the general fund never to be seen by
the library again, unless it needs to be returned to the student.

As a parent and a taxpayer, I take issue with this. As a librarian, I feel it is
deceptive to ask for money to replace a lost or damaged item if I know full well
that the money collected will not replace said item.

In my previous district we were instructed to submit a requisition to the business
for replacement books. I only discovered the policy here when I asked how I should
go about replacing books.

Obviously, I am not going to rock the boat without a lot of documentation.

I'm only asking for a simple response (though you can go into more detail if you
want to!)

Are lost/damaged book payments used to replace books in your library? Yes or no.

I am looking for official policies, I know some people have found ways around the
official policies. I won't be going against district policy.

Thanks in advance!
