Netters, esp. Anna Garcia,

Sorry to post to all, but Anna's spam filter is
blocking a direct reply.

Ida B. by Katherine Hannigan is the book you need.
It was read aloud to a 4th grade class here last year,
and they literally applauded as it finished. A wide
variety of kids checked it out to read for themselves
afterward, also. Ida B. is truly a keeper, esp. for those
whose life is challenging for some reason, or in a
period of change (which is scary).

A Single Shard by Linda Sue Park is similarly inspiring,
but slightly harder for reluctant kids to connect with,
since it's historical fiction, and set in Korea. It takes
longer to connect with the central character (with
Ida B., you will have them in a moment if you
read aloud thru "there is never enough time for fun.")

These are two of my favorite books, and during the
past few years, moving my library several times,
it was comforting to feel that someone out there
understood how I felt, even as the challenges they
described were different (many things about how
they felt were similar). Good luck. :)
