I collaborate on any assignment that uses library services. How do I this depends on the teacher. Some will stop in..I drop everything when this happens and meet with the teacher. Some will come in during my lunch period and again I meet with them. Some teachers need some prodding and I inititate the collaboration. Does it work every time? No and that is OK. Often, they only need suggestions for web sites or possible assessment ideas. As every student has a laptop it becomes easy for me to work in any classroom setting. The students don't have to come to the library - I can either go to them or email the teachers my ideas. it means I have to listen carefully to what is happening in the school and be proactive. Often, the teacher is clueless as to what can be done. Some teachers will never use me and that is OK too. Sometimes to takes years for a teacher to come around but often they do. Actually, some times I wish so many did not want to use me as I have no library aide and my time becomes limited. I do manage to accomodate everyone that requests help with assignments, projects, etc. but it may mean lots of late nights - but it gets done. Do you always have to take the initiative? Does your school allow for planning time to get this done? Or do you not collaborate because of lack of time or uncooperative colleagues? I have a job interview coming up and your answers might be a huge help to me if this question should come up.
