Hi all,

I am appearing at a panel discussion on Internet safety Capitol Hill in
early October. They are trying to get the key Congressional staff members to
attend. If you have any thoughts on what I should definitely mention, please
do not hesitate to send them to me.

All best, Nancy

Subject: PFF event: "Cyber-Safety in a Web 2.0 World" (Wed., Oct. 3rd,
12:00)

October has been designated "National Cyber-Security Month" and online child
safety issues remain the focus of much debate on Capitol Hill. I invite you
to join us on Wednesday, October 3 at Noon for an event discussing
³Cyber-Safety in a Web 2.0 World: What Parents and Policymakers Need to
Know.² Representative Melissa Bean, sponsor of the "Safeguarding America's
Families by Enhancing and Reorganizing New and Efficient Technologies Act"
(H.R. 3461), will address attendees prior to a panel discussion.
Representative Bean's bill proposes a nationwide awareness campaign to
educate parents, children and consumers on Internet safety. A panel of
leading child safety experts, all authors of new online safety guides for
parents, will discuss existing child safety tools, strategies, and best
practices. The panelists will also debate the role of policymakers in
promoting online safety.

This event will take place in the Cannon House Office Building (Room 121)
and lunch will be served. More details can be found down below and you can
RSVP at the following website:

October has been designated "National Cyber-Security Month" and policymakers
continue to debate what additional steps need to be taken to protect
children online from objectionable content or unwanted contacts. In the
meantime, however, parents are dealing with that task every day. In carrying
out those challenging responsibilities, they will need all the help and
advice they can get. This Progress & Freedom Foundation panel will feature
some of the leading experts on online child safety in America and the books
they have authored about these issues. The participants will discuss their
advice for parents on this front and also outline what step public officials
should take to assist parents and kids. Those interested in attending should
