i just have to say i am utterly disturbed that there are librarians--of all people--out there defacing books due to nudity or any other reason. doesn't this go against what the very core of a librarian is supposed to be? isn't this a perfect opportunity to teach/show students, no matter what their age, that these sorts of experiences can be handled as maturely as possible? are we THAT uptight in this country? it's natural for young people to giggle over nudity--what's the big deal? sometimes i giggle along too (No, David for example) and as for my older students, well, how else are they supposed to learn about great artists, illustrators or even their own bodies? and no i do not have tenure and that still does not stop me from choosing for my media center what i feel is necessary/important/enlightening/fun for the students of my school. i'd feel quite upset knowing my own 10 and 12 year-old daughters were exposed to a media center that censors books in such a way, and they, quite frankly, would find such actions laughable.
