I think this is a place where a policy & procedure manual, supported by the principal, sanctioned by the school committee, and distributed to all staff, might help. A section on collaboration & how much lead time is required might make things clearer. That said, there are teachers who will always wait to the last minute. And there are teachers who ask so sweetly that you're willing to stretch. But it is ridiculous to stay very late when the teacher whose poor planning you're covering up leaves on time!
